A Quick Trip to Ontario - October 8 - 10, 2026

With the camping season running out and a few days of decent weather ahead we decided to make a run out to Brighton, ON doing some shopping through Prince Edward County on the way. We also planned to drop in to The Golden Palace in Ottawa on the way home for some of their famous egg rolls.

Day 1 - Thursday, October 08, 2026 - Shopping In The County

We set out from home just after 09:00 and headed along the 401 to route 49 just before Belleville. We headed down 49 toward Picton. Just over the bridge into Prince Edward County we were sent on a detour due to work on 49. It took a bit longer than normal but we made it to Picton about 13:15.

Rod took "the girls" for a nice walk while Lillian shopped her Main Street favourites including Zest Kitchen Shop and Rosehaven Yarn Shop.

We then headed to Ralph's Meat Market and were surprised to also find Ralph's Smokehouse where we split a bacon-cheeseburger which was excellent. After a quick shop at Ralph's and the adjacent Metro store and another stop at the LCBO, we headed on to Brighton.

We arrived at Brighton/401 KOA Holiday just before 17:00. While sitting around before dinner we were discussing the next couple of days. We were hoping to stop by the Golden Palace Restaurant in Ottawa to pick up some of their famous egg rolls on our way home on Saturday. If we were heading that way we figured we could drop by our friends Tony and Heather in Winchester since we still had not seen their house. Rod texted Heather to get their address since we did not have it handy and explained what we had in mind. Heather offered to pick up the egg rolls on her way home on Saturday so we could go direct to Winchester. We had a plan!

Day 2 - Friday, October 09, 2026 - Hanging Around Camp

As the title suggests, we hung around camp for the day. Took the dogs for long walks and collected eggs from the camp owners. Besides our own supplies, we picked up a couple of dozen for Heather. We were still finishing the last of the eggs we bought at Gaspereau Valley Fibres.

We wrapped the day with a nice camp fire.

Day 3 - Saturday, October 10, 2026 - Home Via Ottawa

We set out about 09:30 stopping at the McDonalds across the highway for some breakfast munchies. After a stop in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory to top up on gas we set course for Limestone Organic Creamery. We heard about it from the folks at the Brighton campground since we were interested in good food.

We then headed on to Winchester by the secondary roads to enjoy a relaxing drive through the farmlands and lakes. We got to Tony and Heather's about 2 PM and spent a couple of hours touring and visiting. The dogs all had a great romp around the ample yard.

We moved on just after 4 PM and got home by 6 PM.
